Foursquare: It’s a No-Brainer

by Trevor B Reed on May 18, 2010 · 4 comments

Any bartender will tell you that their best customers are their regulars. They tend to know how the restaurant works (menu, specials, flow, etc.), tip bigger, and bring in more friends. These regulars, these social captains should be your target. Now, imagine if there was an easy way for you to:

1. find out who your restaurant’s social captains are

2. Give them an incentive to visit your establishment more often

3. Reward your most prolific patron for the duration of their reign as frequency champion

Turns out there is. The name is Foursquare and if you run a restaurant, night club, bar or similar establishment, you need to be using it now.

Succeeding With Foursquare

Once your business is set up in Foursquare, your patrons can “check in” via their smart phone every time they visit you. This tells all their friends where they are and is an automatic invitation to join. It also can be posted to the customer’s social media pages to reach a larger audience. Obviously there are great opportunities with this type of media. There could be special Foursquare only deals, parties, or other relevant events. The point behind all of this is to reward those guests who visit you most.

These guests also tend to bring their friends with them who in turn bring theirs. How profitable would your business be if your dining room was packed with your most frequent customers and their closest friends?

Reward The Foursquare Mayor of Your Restaurant

There is an honor bestowed upon the most frequent visitor to a particular place. This high honor is known as the Mayor and there should be an extra benefit given to this person. Also, the patrons can leave suggestions and recommendations for their friends when they visit you, such as the best specialty drink, best deal, coolest waitress, and more. Did I mention that this glorious service is free? By this time, you should already be looking for the website (foursquare.com), and if you’re not, I guarantee your competition is.

Very cool concept. Seems like it could be very effective if the incentives were right.

Google, currently trading at just under $415 per share is still a good investment according to analysts. Why Google, because, they are one of the biggest search engines and overall their stock can only go up, barring a huge disaster. I don't know much about finance but it just makes sense to me.
